We heard about Daisy Mae through Animal Control in PG County, which attempted to criminally charge Daisy Mae's owner until he disappeared. He actually had the nerve to deliver a starved, skeletal Daisy Mae and another dog to the shelter, stating that he was tired of taking care of them. When an Animal Control officer spotted the dogs, she intervened and asked why Daisy Mae was so emaciated. He replied, "because she's female."

Daisy Mae survived, but her dog friend died shortly afterwards. Animal Control tended to Daisy Mae while they searched for the owner, but when it was clear he eluded them, Animal Control was no longer able to keep Daisy Mae as "evidence" in a court case. A call to DAWG resulted in us taking her. Who could resist those eyes?

Daisy Mae was very scared when she left the shelter. Her caretakers cried because they grew to love her. The shelter personnel helped Daisy Mae into the DAWG volunteer's car, and as soon as they did so, Daisy placed her paws on top of the volunteer's hands to show her affection. Off they went, with Daisy Mae calmly sitting in the backseat, no doubt wondering what was happening.

Daisy Mae is making great strides in her recovery from her ordeal and will be a robust young dog in no time. What would really help Daisy Mae to accelerate her recovery is to be in a home. Unlocking the many facets of Daisy Mae's personality will be an adventure! Every once in a while, we see a look in her eyes that make us think she dreams of loping around in a big back yard. But she has no idea of the other wonderful things ahead of her. A lucky person will experience her many "first times" as Daisy Mae finally gets the life she deserves.
