While most people celebrated
Thanksgiving in warm homes surrounded by family and friends, our new
Elf struggled to survive in a trash
container. Luckily, one of DAWG's volunteers was alerted to the little dog's
peril through Animal Control, which took the little dog to the shelter (see
the "Before" picture).
When Elf arrived at the shelter, he weighed in at all of two pounds, but has
since gained a few more. He may be tiny, but he thinks he's mighty!
Elf did not like being handled
when DAWG first took him in, and he actually bit his future foster mom! It
is understandable that Elf is fearful of new people given his background,
but some little dogs seem to be wired that way and get defensive in new
situations or in the presence of a new person. However, Elf eventually
focuses on known "friends" as the center of his universe. Elf also likes
some other dogs and adores his foster mom's cat!
Elf is not be a good choice
for a home with children or grandchildren who might accidentally scare Elf.
However a person with a quiet life would be perfect for him!
