Missy's shelter card, prepared by a smitten volunteer, read: Missy is a complete angel! She is very well-behaved and calm and sweet and loving! She sat at my feet so I could pet her...she has the saddest eyes and so desperately wants a loving home and family to call her own. She has a beautiful coat and sat for me while I brushed her. Please ask to meet her today and you too will fall in love!

While shelter visitors paid no heed to the volunteer's wonderful note, we did. Missy was turned into the shelter by her owner for a flimsy reason we have since forgotten. She is a wonderful, perfect dog who didn't deserve to have her heartbroken (not that any shelter dog deserves his or her fate).
