As Zeus settled into life in
his foster home, Zeus' foster mom discovered that Zeus would
over-react when startled, such as when someone accidentally
stepped on his foot. Zeus also started to protect
her! Nonetheless, Zeus' warm and inquisitive personality
could not be denied and was the reason why Zeus' foster mom
knew it was time to call upon a professional trainer and
behaviorist. She also "pulled" Zeus from DAWG's adoptable
list while Zeus was evaluated and "rebooted." (It is not
uncommon that dogs in rescue need to learn to look to their
humans for direction as well as affection.) Zeus is doing
wonderfully now. He has excelled in his obedience training
and is ever so much better on a leash, although watch out if
he connects with an interesting scent!
Zeus needs an experienced
adopter who will continue to enforce rules and remind Zeus
his human calls the shots and takes care of HIM!
We recommend a quiet home to keep Zeus focused, so a home
with young children is not ideal. Zeus may do well with
another dog of a similar age if the dog is not overly
dominant, as Zeus currently lives with a large male
and female dog. (Note that Zeus has done well with dogs of
all sizes.)
Zeus is active and needs
adequate exercise. Also, given that he's a hound, Zeus needs
a secure yard with a six foot fence where he can run off
some of his energy. We have tested him with a four foot
fence and he managed to scale it easily. Those hounds are
determined hunters!
